Come and See at Holy Cross Abbey, Whitland, West Wales. May 27-30th 2016

We are Cistercian Nuns who live a quiet life of prayer and work, in solitude and in community. We invite you to join us to experience Cistercian monastic life as lived today. You will share in the Divine Office, in our work, times of quiet prayer, and lectio divina. There will be opportunities to talk about God and to experience one of the many ways to answer God's call.

If you are interested and would like explore God's call, please email Sr Jo  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Our Continuing Thanks

Fr Owen and Fr Liam from St David & St Patrick in Haverfordwest who are very generous

in offering us at least two Masses each week.

We are very grateful and give thanks to God for their kindness.

For Sunday 17th & 24th unfortunately they are not able to be with us and therefore

we enlisted Bishop Tom's help.

Now we have a visit from our Abbott General Dom Eamon Fitzgerald and he will will be

celebrating Mass at 9 am on Sunday 17th May The Ascension Of the Lord

Update on Dom John Moaklers health

Father John had a fall on 14th March resulting in a broken right hip and shoulder.

He was admitted to Glangwili Hospital and had surgery the following day.

A few days later, however there was some internal bleeding and his medical condition became critical.

Now several weeks later he is stable, though very frail and bed bound at present.

He was transferred from Glangwili Hospital to Llandovery Hospital for a 6 - 8 week programme of

rehabilitation on 21st April and is now at Tenby Cottage Hospital Ward, Park House.

He is himself, content and peaceful and fully in the Lords hands.

The Community at Holy Cross Abbey ask your continued prayer for Father Johns well being.

Reverend David Hammon

23.8.1948 - 15.6.2014

Our dear friend, the Vicar of St Peter's Church, Lampeter Velfrey, died peacefully at home on Trinity Sunday after a long illness.

His faith and courage enabled him to continue his ministry until the last few weeks.

May he come in joy to the Father's house where there is fullness of life in Christ and may Margoe, his wife, who cared for him so faithfully, be comforted.

We give thanks for a life well lived.

Requiescat in pace

Sr Stephanie's Diamond Jubilee

On 2nd July we celebrated Sister Stephanies Diamond Jubilee of Monastic Profession, giving thanks for her fidelity to her monastic commitment over 60 years. We were joined by Brother Teilo of Caldey Abbey and Brother Martin of Mount Saint Bernard Abbey. After a Thanksgiving Mass, celebrated by our Chaplain, Dom John Moakler, dedicated to Our Lady of Peace, we went into holiday mode with lunch and a magnificent cake. A great day for all of us, including Jake, our old rescue cat, who Sister Stephanie looked after. And the post script? Jake died peacefully the day after the celebration. He was approximately 17 years old, stone deaf, arthritic and with one tooth, but plenty of character.
